Advancing real-world AI applications through research, innovation, and collaboration at the University of Kentucky.

The Center for Applied Artificial Intelligence (CAAI) at the University of Kentucky, housed within the Institute for Biomedical Informatics (IBI), is dedicated to bridging the gap between the vast potential of Artificial Intelligence and its practical, real-world applications. Our mission is to drive innovation, solve complex problems, and improve outcomes across diverse disciplines, with a significant focus on biomedical informatics, healthcare, and translational science. We aim to support the University of Kentucky's broader mission by applying AI to enhance health outcomes, accelerate research, and contribute to the development of a future-ready workforce.

AI Innovation & Services at CAAI

CAAI develops, curates, and provides access to a suite of cutting-edge AI tools, platforms, and expertise. We empower researchers, clinicians, students, and collaborators by offering:

  • CLASSify: An accessible, no-code, web-based platform for machine learning. It enables users to easily train, evaluate, and interpret classification models on tabular data, and includes features for synthetic data generation and model explainability (SHAP).
  • LLM Factory: A specialized, customizable, and secure self-service environment designed for leveraging Large Language Models (LLMs) in various research and application development contexts.
  • CAT-Talk: A tool focused on "Conversations Decoded, Insights Revealed," likely pertaining to conversational AI analysis, development, or natural language understanding applications.
  • SmartState: An innovative system designed for automated research protocol adherence, aiming to improve the efficiency and reliability of clinical studies and other research endeavors.
  • Core Research Areas: Beyond these tools, CAAI actively engages in research and development across:
    • Computer Vision
    • Data Science & Advanced Analytics
    • Multi-Modal AI
