🚩 Report: Ethical issue(s)
The company added some so-called "free speech" and "anti-information censorship" elements, which in reality only serve to vent their hostility towards Communist China.
This stems from the irrational insecurity felt by some Americans as China grew stronger in the 21st century. They both despise and fear China, struggling forward in contradiction, forced to watch Chinese companies surpass them.
Pathetically, an AI company would invest resources in such a project devoid of commercial or technological value—merely an ideological tool. (U.S. President Donald Trump famously dislikes these things—is Perplexity not afraid of being suppressed by both XI JINPING and TRUMP?)
Absurdly, Perplexity actually uses a Chinese company's model. Is Perplexity so weak that it has no alternatives? Have its engineers been sold to slave traders by executives to fund drug purchases? (Just kidding—U.S. technological prowess remains the undisputed global No.1.)
Finally, I must say: such biased projects harm both Hugging Face and societal progress. I oppose China exploiting open-source code to maliciously attack the U.S., and vice versa—these are meaningless human conflicts.
