Why this licence ?
If I understand correctly, your license prohibits the free use of the generated textures...
If that's the case, we'll stick with MTB models. I'll never understand this desire to make tools so closed off.
I would have included a thank you to Ubisoft for this model in my blog/game. But now, it just makes me want to steer clear of your products.
Indeed, what a crappy license. why release it..
Hello,
This is a research project that got published at SIGGRAPH Asia 2025: https://ubisoft-laforge.github.io/world/chord
We released the weights of model to demonstrate the novelty of the approach and the claims we make in the paper. This allows other researchers to study the model and use it as a benchmark to further improve the state of the art.
If you would like to discuss potential commercial terms for the license, you can reach out to [email protected]
You're welcome.
I'm sorry but this is not a good argument. See https://github.com/ubisoft/ComfyUI-Chord/issues/19
It is contradictory to leverage open-source model to develop CHORD and then lock the results behind a corporate legal wall. By sharing weights without a usable license, you are using platforms like Hugging Face for visibility while bypassing the fundamental principle of reciprocity that fuels modern AI research. This 'look but don’t touch' strategy serves Ubisoft’s branding more than it serves the progress of the field.
Claiming 'novelty' while gatekeeping a model built on the back of open-source software is a questionable stance. If the community that developed the tools you used had adopted your same restrictive licensing logic, projects like CHORD wouldn't even exist
